Content Engine/xFormer
The UTStarcom RollingStream® IPTV solution includes a cost-effective encoding platform that delivers high quality MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding/transcoding. Designed for IP Streaming applications where bandwidth utilization and broadcast picture quality require careful optimization, the Content Engine provides a reliable bandwidth efficient and easily operable platform. It allows network operators to deliver revenue-generating broadcast services without lengthy integration cycles. The Content Engine encodes and transcodes live or stored media into MPEG for network transport or storage.
UTStarcom’s IPTV ecosystem also includes other third party vendor encoders to accommodate for service provider preferences. UTStarcom has already demonstrated interoperability with different encoders which are now part of the RollingStream IPTV ecosystem.
Technical
The UTStarcom RollingStream Content Engine comprises a 10u Chassis, one or two Content Engine Controllers, and several Content Engine Server blades.

The Content Engine is an audio and video encoding platform capable of delivering both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding formats. The flexibility of variable bit rate encoding from 1Mbps to 6Mbps allows network operators to optimize video-quality based bandwidth availability.
- Remote Configuration
Using the fully integrated UTStarcom Network Management System (NMS), operators can configure channels and manage encoding operations from remote locations.
- Reliable System
Designed with network redundancy in mind, the Content Engine features controller modules and monitored hot standby and encoder modules supporting automatic process fail-over. All server modules are hot-swappable and field replaceable.
