Storage and Streaming Server
UTStarcom RollingStream® IPTV solution offers a proven, carrier-grade IPTV streaming platform that delivers broadcast-quality entertainment and on-demand services over existing and new broadband network infrastructure. The MediaStation is UTStarcom’s storage and streaming server designed for central-office deployment. Built to securely deliver broadcast quality streaming to a large subscriber base across wide-area networks, the MediaStation is a cost-effective, carrier-class platform ensuring key carrier attributes such as performance, scalability, reliability, and network efficiency.
In a distributed architecture, the optional MediaStation in the Headend Office/Data Center is referred to as the Central MediaStation. MediaStations at Regional or Edge Central Offices are referred to as Edge MediaStations.
Technical
UTStarcom’s MediaStation consists of a 10U chassis, which houses up to ten (10) server blades. Up to four (4) MediaStation chassis can be installed in a standard 42U telco rack. The Central MediaStation system supports a combination of Media Director (MD), Media Engine (ME), License Server, Authentication Server, and EPG/Application server blades. Each Edge MediaStation chassis supports various combinations of Media Director and Media Engine server blades.
The MediaStation ensures:
Bandwidth Efficiency
Powered by UTStarcom’s Broadband Media Distribution Protocol (BMDP), MediaStation intelligently caches content on network edge servers based on prior viewing demand and operator specified policies. Every piece of content is stored in at least two locations within the server cluster. Content distribution is implemented using both scheduled push and on-demand pull, ensuring high content availability and quick streaming delivery to any subscriber at any location.
Fault Tolerance
The MediaStation features redundant server controllers (Media Directors) and a cluster of streaming and storage servers (Media Engines). In the event of failure, video streams automatically fail over to a working module within the server cluster, making the process entirely transparent to subscribers.
Cost-Effective System Scalability
The chassis-based clustered architecture enables operators to economically scale the system commensurate with subscriber uptake and storage requirement growth. To minimize operator CAPEX and OPEX, server modules are designed with industry standard, off–the-shelf hardware components.
