Media Gateways

UTStarcom’s mSwitch® NGN system includes IP Telephony solutions for next generation voice and data networks. As part of the mSwitch NGN system, UTStarcom’s Trunking Gateway (TG) can provide the actual bearer path for all trunk-based calls within the mSwitch platform. Its purpose is to establish bearer path connections between trunks and/or endpoints within the mSwitch system to other PSTN and IP based switching networks. The TG uses industry standard media gateway control protocols, and has been designed to handle the translation between the PSTN and the packet network. In conjunction with the call server, the TG endpoints can be connected to IP terminals or to other TG endpoints.

Technical

The TG implements H.248 protocol that is used to receive call control instructions from the Call Server (CS-P). It may also provide conversion of bearer traffic between circuit and packet encoding, and it utilizes various packet vocoding protocols including G.711, G.723, G.726, G.728 and G.729a.

Support for Multiple Applications
UTStarcom’s mSwitch TG is designed to support applications such as Class 4 and Class 5 PSTN emulation, voice over broadband, fixed mobile convergence and IP-based enhanced services trunking. It can also support the convergence of wireline, wireless and IP by providing connectivity to the PSTN and extending the reach of IP networks.

High Scalability
The TG is a modularized and cost-effective solution that is highly scalable and allows the operator to expand its network linearly with the growth in its subscribers or traffic usage.

In addition to the TG, UTStarcom’s mSwitch NGN system also includes Compact Trunking Gateway (C-TG) version. The C-TG is a compact and cost-effective 4 rack unit design that uses the same proven advanced technology used on the TG. The C-TG can be used for smaller footprint deployments which require low capacity and density.
