Signaling Gateway

UTStarcom’s mSwitch® NGN system includes IP Telephony solutions for next generation voice and data networks. As part of the mSwitch NGN system, the UTStarcom signaling gateway (SG) enables service providers to leverage the inherent intelligence and flexibility of existing Signaling System 7 (SS7) to deliver enhanced services to IP end-points. It serves as a bridge between the legacy PSTN SS7 network and the next generation IP voice network, translating the signaling information between the two networks.

This cost effective solution allows service providers to transparently deliver IP telephony services to both PSTN and PLMN subscribers. The UTStarcom SG allows service providers to leverage existing features and services in the PSTN SS7 network and integrate those services with IP-based networks.

Technical

The UTStarcom SG is designed to bridge network signaling between the mSwitch system and traditional SS7 networks. Its main function is conversion between SS7 and SIGTRAN protocols, as well as to communicate call information to the call servers. Due to its modular and scalable design, the UTStarcom Signaling Gateway can support either centralized or distributed networks to fit a service provider’s needs.

The SG can support MTP1/2/3, ISUP, TCAP, MAP as well as SIGTRAN protocols such as M3UA and M2UA. It can also support both A-links and F-links networks, and can operate either in SSP/SEP or in STP mode.

Recognizing that service providers require both nodal and geographic redundancy, the UTStarcom SG also combines software resiliency and hardware redundancy to deliver a robust and highly available solution.
