RPR Based Ethernet Transport (RPR)
UTStarcom's NetRing® TN715 platform, equipped with enhanced data service processing capability and
powerful network management capability, is a next-generation data transport product based on the Resilient
Packet Ring (RPR) in compliance with IEEE standard 802.17-2004. The NetRing® TN715 Platform is a carrier-class
Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) transport system designed to address the requirements of data-centric networks,
dramatically reducing both operational and capital expenditures. It empowers networks with the advantages
of RPR in conjunction with the flexibility of Ethernet.
NetRing® TN715 platform can provide network solutions at the backbone layer and aggregation layer of a MAN
and can significantly reduce operation costs. As a high density and scalable data transport platform, one TN715
chassis can achieve multiple GE/2.5G/10G RPR rings and tens FE/GE/10GE tributary interfaces. The RPR looping
technology not only secures the carrier class features like sub-50ms resiliency and guaranteed QoS but it also
overcomes the weakness of the conventional star topology.
The legacy equipment currently deployed in many service provider networks is inherently inadequate with
respect to carrier-class reliability. The TN715, by contrast, employs a fully distributed design including
dual power inputs, dual clock modules, dual control modules, and dual packet-processing modules. Unique
among Ethernet equipment, it is a necessary step in the evolution of effective transport technologies.
