Triple Play
UTStarcom’s mSwitch® NGN, RollingStream™ IPTV, iAN8K and BBS Broadband products come together to offer a true end-to-end offering for customers deploying a “Triple Play” offering of enhanced voice, high-speed data and multimedia and video offerings. The UTStarcom portfolio shares a common call control (softswitch) and an integrated back end system (BES) to offer common network management, billing, provisioning system, etc. For the service provider, this results in easy provisioning and lower operating expense and better insights on customer needs and requirements.
The term “Triple Play” is one of the most widely used terms in the industry. However, the key to realizing it is in the ability to bring the solution together at the core network, which is the advantage of UTStarcom’s solutions. As part of the “Triple Play” voice, data and video offering, UTStarcom also provides a seamless migration path to future converged mobile offerings as the video part of the network in UTStarcom’s offering is a streaming based architecture and design. By developing the solution with a streaming architecture, as opposed to download and play of content, UTStarcom has developed a solution with the operator’s investment protection in mind.

The applications supported as part of UTStarcom’s “Triple Play” offerings include:
High Speed Data Connectivity
UTStarcom offers xDSL connectivity with support for ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+/VDSL2 technologies and FTTx connectivity with support for GEPON. There is an option for bringing the xDSL and FTTx systems together on the BBS 4000 platform, providing an option for xDSL extension. UTStarcom also offers RF Overlay for cable operators, enabling IPTV service to the MSOs.
VoIP Support
UTStarcom’s mSwitch® NGN product family includes IP Telephony solutions for next generation voice and data networks. Applications supported by UTStarcom include Class 4 and Class 5 PSTN emulation (PES), Voice over Broadband (VoBB), IP Messaging and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) among others. UTStarcom’s iAN8K MSAN also provides an option for TDM migration and VoIP support and provides the access and core network for the “Triple Play” offering while using the common call control and the same BES.
Broadcast TV/Time-Shift TV
In addition to delivering live broadcast TV, UTStarcom’s solution provides subscribers with a virtual VCR control to pause, start, stop, rewind and fast forward live TV programs. Users also have the flexibility to watch any previously broadcasted programs without pre-recording.
Video-on-Demand (VOD)
In contrast to traditional Pay-Per-View (PPV) services in which programs are broadcast according to a pre-set schedule, UTStarcom’s RollingStream solution delivers true VOD to subscribers by allowing them to watch any pre-loaded program at any time from anywhere. Operators deliver thousands of hours of VOD content to their users around the world using the RollingStream IPTV solution.
A host of other applications including Video Calling and Conferencing, Internet Gaming, Digital Signage, IP Surveillance and more can be enabled for the operator and directly for the various enterprises. The potential for managed services and new lines of revenue is broad and compelling.
