Wireless Remote Terminal (WRT)

The UTStarcom Personal Access System (PAS™) WRT interconnects Personal Handyphone System (PHS) Radio Components via the Cell Station Controller (CSC) to the WRT and from the WRT to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The WRT connects to the CSC via a standard T1 or E1 link. The WRT provides a Next Generation Integrated Digital Loop Carrier (NG-IDLC) interface to the PSTN or Local Exchange (LE). The NG-IDLC interfaces to the LE can be V5.1, V5.2 or GR303. The WRT also connects with the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) via E1 or T1 trunks to enable roaming. For small network configurations, the WRT provides a centralized user database and performs user authentication. One WRT can provide support for up to 25,000 subscribers.
